THE THREE TOWERS
Art, Culture, History, Traditions, Uniqueness
The Tre Torri la Guaita, la Cesta and Montale were built between the 10th and 13th centuries to defend the Republic from the attacks of the Malatesta, an ancient family that dominated Romagna.
GUAITA
The first tower "Rocca o Guaita" is the most imposing between the historic three towers of San Marino. It is protected by a double circle of walls, therefore it was used as a shelter during sieges.
Guaita is a charming wedding location too!
Between the first and the second tower you can find the well-known “Passo delle Streghe”, a breathtaking path on the ridge between the sea and the mountain.

CESTA
The second tower, “Cesta or Fratta” is located on the highest point of the mountain. Throughout history, it was the seat of the guardhouse where prisons were hosted.
Today it houses the Museum of Ancient Arms.
MONTALE
The third tower is called “Montale” and it is the smallest between the three. It hosts an eight meters deep prison, but unfortunately it is not open to the public.
