Calendar with the holidays of the Republic of San Marino with the official national ceremonies

February 5: Sant'Agata
 

Date in which the liberation from occupation of Cardinal Giulio Alberoni is celebrated, who was disowned by the Pope thus restoring freedom to the San Marino citizens on February 5, 1740, the day of Sant'Agata and since then Co-patroness of our Republic and who is celebrated with an evocative procession which starts from Borgo Maggiore with arrival at the Basilica del Santo.

25 March: Arengo anniversary

​

National holiday commemorating the birth of the Arengo, the parliament directly elected by the citizens. This anniversary was combined with the Feast of the Military Corps who line up in full uniform in front of the Ara dei Volontari and then parade through the streets of the historic center to the Basilica del Santo and the new recruits take the oath in front of the Most Excellent Captains Regent.

1 April and 1 October: Inauguration of the Captains Regent

​

The Heads of State of the Republic of San Marino are 2 and are elected every six months. On April 1 and October 1, during a ceremony that has been repeated unchanged for centuries and is experienced with participation by all citizens, the handover takes place between the outgoing and new Captains Regent.

First Thursday after Pentecost (June): Corpus Domini

​

Corpus Domini is celebrated as a national holiday that begins with cannon salvos and the national anthem. The Captains Regent, wearing the collar that symbolizes their powers and followed by the military corps, lead the procession from Piazza della Libertà to the Basilica del Santo where the Bishop celebrates Holy Mass and blesses the Republic.

July 28: Fall of the fascist government

​

In the Republic of San Marino the fascist party fell, 3 days after the Italian one, on 28 July 1943 and every year San Marino celebrates the feast of freedom.

September 3: Anniversary of the founding of the Republic

​

On September 3, the Republic of San Marino celebrates the saint who founded it in 301 AD. Religious ceremonies, traditional historical processions and popular festivals, concerts and other collateral events alternate all day long in the evocative scenery of the historic center.
